Georges Simeon in Delfzijl
When Simenon sailed along the European coast in 1929 and his sailing ship sprang a leak, he sailed to the nearest port: Delfzijl. The book ‘’Maigret in Holland’’ is set in Delfzijl. Although the story is fictional, the locations are real, such as the train station from 1883 where Maigret arrives, as well as the harbor, the dike and the Damsterdiep. During his investigation, detective Maigret stayed at Hotel Boven Groningen, at the time called: ‘’Hotel Noordooster’’.
Next to the reception, in honor of Maigret, hangs a display case full of books and various items.
